Building a resilient future
Murder, intrigue, cyber security, computer hacking and counter terrorism are just some of the topics on offer at the 2012 secau Cyber Security Congress.
Entitled Building a Resilient Future, the annual conference brings together some of the best in the business in the field of cyber security.
Guest speaker Rosemary Craig is headlining the event with her keynote presentation – Getting Away with Murder. A psychology graduate and business professional, Ms Craig will provide an in depth look at the controversial Howell and Buchanan murder case, which took Ireland by storm in 1991 and again in 2009.
Presenters from around the globe will join Ms Craig to present on a range of topics, including:
Lots of safeguards but no protection: presented by keynote speaker Professor Steven Furnell, Head of the Centre for Security, Communications and Network Research at Plymouth University;
When automation ends and people begin: presented Mr Gavin Reid, keynote speaker and global leader of the Computer Security Incident Response at Cisco Systems;
Hacktivism – Ethical issues in Belelovent Hacking: presented by keynote speaker from the University of Cambridge, Mr Colin Honey;
Eavesdropping on the Smart Grid: presented by the secau Security Research Institute and led by Institute Director Professor Craig Valli; and
Cyberterrorism – addressing the challenges for establishing an international legal framework: presented by lecturer from ECU’s School of Law and Justice, Mr Krishna Prasad.
Professor Valli is looking forward to welcoming international security experts to Perth for the congress.
“Technology and its security is now more important than ever before in defining the way we operate in today’s society,” Professor Valli said.
“Continuous advances in technology means new security threats are rapidly emerging. This conference is a chance for international experts from different backgrounds to meet, raise security concerns and outline possible solutions that can be utilised across the global technology sector.”
The secau Congress was first held in 2009, with some conferences in the congress now into their second decade of existence. The congress is organised by ECU’s Security Research Institute, a world leader in the area of cyber security and digital forensics research.
The Institute is respected globally for its work in digital forensics, cyber security, network and wireless security, information warfare and risk management.
The 2012 secau Congress is sponsored by Emirates Group Security, Woodside Energy and Cisco Systems.
