The Risk Management Institution RMIA Logoof Australasia (RMIA) has appointed EY partner Catherine Friday, CPRM, as an independent director.

Ms Friday has worked at EY (formerly Ernst & Young) since its merger with the Australian operations of Andersen in May 2002. She has 20 years’ experience providing governance and risk advisory services to clients in the private and public sectors.

She leads EY’s Government and Public Sector Risk Practice across Oceania, which includes risk consulting, internal audit, corporate governance, and compliance service lines.

RMIA General Manager Suzanne Cureton welcomed Ms Friday’s appointment. “Her experience in modifying client organisations’ systems, structures and controls so they are risk-based and proportionate to the strategies they are enabling will be advantageous to RMIA as it moves forward with its RISK2020 vision,” she said.

RISK2020 will see RMIA substantially improve the quality of risk management throughout Australia by 2020.

“Catherine’s vast experience and new role as an RMIA independent director will be highly valued as she assists the board to achieve its goals,” Ms Cureton said.

Ms Friday has been a Certified Practicing Risk Manager since 2007.

Her appointment takes the RMIA board to nine directors – two of whom are independent and seven are elected by the membership.

This month RMIA and EY announced a three-year strategic alliance through which EY will sponsor the RISK2020 initiative.
