Minister for Justice, Jason Clare, today officially opened the new Australian Federal Police Aviation Operations Centre at Adelaide Airport.
“The new facility is the fourth to be opened across Australia’s major airports, and was built as part of the Federal Government’s $200 million commitment to strengthen aviation security,” Mr Clare said.
“It is vital to the safety and security of the travelling public that the AFP maintains a highly visible presence to deter and identify potential criminal activity.”
The new facilities include an Emergency Operations Centre, Airport Police Operations Centre, training and exhibit handling facilities and muster and interview rooms.
Federal Member for Hindmarsh, Steve Georganas said the Emergency Operations Centre will allow the co-ordination of emergency responses to incidents within the airport precinct.
“These new upgraded facilities will assist the AFP in its role as the agency responsible for aviation security and law enforcement at Adelaide airport.” Mr Georganas said.
New AFP facilities at Adelaide, Sydney, Darwin and Canberra airports have been completed, with construction currently underway at Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth airports.
