F-35A aircraft vital choice for Australia’s Defence Force long-term air-combat capability
MELBOURNE, Australia, Feb. 25, 2013 – Lockheed Martin will host its media briefing for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Program at the 2013 Avalon International Airshow and Aerospace & Defense Exposition in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.

The F-35 Lightning II is the world’s most advanced military aircraft and for over a decade, the U.S. and our allies have invested in developing this fifth-generation, international, multi-role fighter aircraft that will serve as a cornerstone of global security in the 21st century. Locally, the F-35 program delivers more than $300 million in contracts, helping support the economic prosperity in Australia.
The briefing will highlight the capabilities of the F-35A – the world’s most advanced multi-role fighter aircraft – which is currently in production for initial delivery to the Royal Australian Air Force in 2014. The briefing will also provide an update on the growing opportunities for job creation and export opportunities for Australian industry including access to advanced manufacturing technologies associated with this growing international program.
The media program will be followed by a question and answer session with Steve O’Bryan and F-35 Chief Test Pilot, Alan Norman.

These economic impact numbers will proportionately increase as Australia continues to purchase aircrafts, raising the economic impact to $5.5 billion across Australia at full rate of production. Additionally, thousands of individuals are employed in the F-35 partner countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Norway.
