International Leaders from Across the Asia-Pacific Outline Path to Sustainable Economic Recovery

0

APEC 2021 is bringing world leaders from both business and government together to address current global challenges and encourage cooperation as recovery plans are developed and implemented across APEC economies.

Significant policy milestones reached since New Zealand became the APEC 2021 host, including:

  • New policies designed to speed up the flow of vaccines and vaccine-related goods by eliminating trade restrictions and agreeing on guidelines for Customs authorities.
  • The doubling down on plans to develop a sustainable and long-term recovery by reducing harmful fisheries and fossil fuel subsidies and updating APEC’s List of Environmental Goods.
  • Coordinating structural reform efforts to accelerate economic recovery.
  • Agreeing to explore initiatives that provide solutions for international travel under COVID-19 conditions.
  • Adopting a 10-year food security roadmap to increase access to sufficient, safe, affordable, and nutritious food in the region.

As part of its role as host of APEC 2021, New Zealand is leading the development of a detailed plan of action to make the Putrajaya Vision 2040, agreed by Leaders at APEC Malaysia last year, a reality. Delivering the plan, which will shape APEC’s work for the next two decades, is one of the most important tasks to be achieved this year.
