ASIAL Welcomes NSW Government Reforms

0

The peak body for the private security industry, the Australian Security Industry Association (ASIAL) has welcomed changes announced by the NSW Government to remove corrupt practices and rogue operators from the industry. Commenting today on the changes, Bryan de Caires, Chief Executive Officer said:

“As acknowledged by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, the private security industry performs a crucial and ever growing role in safeguarding the interests of business, government and the community in NSW. It is therefore vital that there is a robust and effective regulatory regime in place.”

“ASIAL has for many years called for a more proactive approach by the regulator towards compliance and enforcement within the security industry. The proposed changes offer the potential to address key areas of non-compliance by a minority of operators.”

In framing the proposed changes, the Government has taken on board a number of recommendations put forward by ASIAL.

Whilst disappointed with the removal of the co-regulatory approach, ASIAL remains committed to working with the NSW Government and Police to ensure that bona fide operators are not disadvantaged and that the community is serviced appropriately by the private security industry.
