Ambulance Victoria Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Registry
Ambulance Victoria (AV) has commenced a Victorian Government funded project to develop a state-wide registry of Automated External Defibrillators.
The data within the registry will be provided to the emergency call centres for inclusion within the Computer Aided Dispatch systems.
This will enable the call centres to identify whether an AED is present at a location during a ‘000’ call involving a suspected cardiac arrest and alert the caller and provide advice on its use prior to ambulance arrival. At present this information is not available and there is a real risk that a life-saving AED available at the site of a cardiac arrest may not be used because bystanders are not aware of its availability or location or how to operate the device.
AV has developed a brochure (attached) and a web site www.registermyaed.com.au to bring this important life saving initiative to the attention of AED owners. Security guards are often trained in first aid and the use of AED’s, and usually have the best knowledge of there location within their sites.
All information provided to AV is only utilised for the purpose of populating the Computer Aided Dispatch systems and will not be utilised for any other purpose.
