HOW MANY MORE AUSTRALIANS HAVE TO DIE BEFORE STATE AND TERRITORY GOVERNMENTS BLOCK ACCESS TO GUNS AND AMMO?
URGENT action is needed to reduce the risk of copycat murderous acts, by radicalised, marginalised, ‘home grown’, ‘lone wolf’, teenage terrorists, according to the Director of Homeland Security Asia/Pacific, Roger Henning, who was the Crisis Manager flown into Port Arthur, scene of Australia’s largest mass casualty event – before the capture of lone gunman, Martin Bryant!
A seasoned crisis/disaster/counter terrorism specialist, involved in the aftermath of more than 50 major incidents – worldwide, Mr Henning said, “A simple way to make it much tougher for would-be terrorists to get hold of guns and ammunition, has existed in Australia since 2007, yet ignored by all Premiers and Chief Ministers (see attached sent in June 2015, to and receipt acknowledged by State and Territory Governments)
“All State and Territory Governments, have failed to implement their own 2007 COAG agreement, to block the CBRNE supply chain, which is largely a State and Territory responsibility! It isn’t rocket science, or very expensive, to block access to implements of death stockpiled by terrorists! A gun is an innate weapon – without bullets!
“The official guesstimate of 250,000 illegal guns nation-wide, is likely to be as high as 500,000, according to those who acknowledge weapons regularly bypass inspection processes at Australian airports and seaports. It is easy to buy old and new weapons in Sydney’s west, Melbourne and other capital cities. Along with ice and other drugs, guns travel interstate and intrastate by air, including via light aircraft using small airports, as well as by road.
“It was gut-wrenching to see the agony etched on the faces of NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipioni and Deputy Commissioner, Nick Kaldas, last Friday, after losing one of their own civilian staffers, murdered in cold blood, by a Sydney high school student armed with an illegal weapon.
“Meanwhile, the cowards who radicalised this boy, seldom carry out terrorist acts in person. At this stage, they remain at large, while no doubt recruiting other boy terrorists, from the safety of their homes? In Africa, it was common for boy soldiers to be recruited and trained by war lords. IS has changed that model by using sophisticated online marketing methodology to make young boys and men believe it is exciting to randomly murder innocent people”, Mr Henning said.
“Do we have to wait for the assassination of an Australian politician, celebrity singer, or football star, before the 2007 COAG agreement, to block the CBRNE supply chain is activated?”.
