Media Release
On September 3 – 6 2012 IB Consultancy held Asia’s premier CBRNe event, The Non-Conventional Threat: CBRNe Asia 2012, in Bangkok, Thailand with close to 300 delegates. The four day show brought together representatives from over 30 different countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and India through to Europe as well as the US and Canada.
The event started on the 3rd with the pre-conference workshop on EU-Asia dialogue for CBRNe matters, focusing on the EU Centers of Excellence. The interactive session was held at The Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok and brought together high-level representatives from multiple Governments from across Asia creating a unique opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between the key European stakeholders and the government authorities from Asia on Non-Proliferation aspects and CBRNe. The first day ended with an ice-breaker reception.
On September 4th the conference and exhibition were opened by Lieutenant General (Ret´d) Chalermsuk Yugala, Advisor, Royal Thai Army Chemical Department with a presentation on “Globalisation and Utilisation of Thai National Assets for CBRNe Incidents”. Other highlights over the two days included presentations from the Japanese Government, International Atomic Energy Agency, the Head of the NATO WMD Non-Proliferation Centre,European Commission, the Australian Department of Defence, Government of India and the UK Police National CBRN Centre.
Delegates had the chance to visit the largest CBRNe exhibition in Asia this year, with 30 exhibitors from a variety of companies each showcasing the most innovative and up-to-date solutions for the CBRNe community. Equipment available to view was varied and ranged from protective apparatus and respirators through to detection and decontamination products and medical countermeasures.
As well as attracting commercial companies, the conference was run in partnership with the Royal Thai Government and supported by government agencies such as Interpol and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
On the last day an interactive table-top session took place. Senior representatives from the Royal Thai Government’s Department of Disaster Management and Mitigation (DDPM) ran a fully interactive facilitator-led discussion, centered on a potential real-world scenario. The table-top was run as a News show, with IB Consultancy’s Andrew Proudlove as the anchor-man in a news show covering a CBRN incident in Thailand. The tabletop in the other room was shown using a live video stream and a ‘reporter’ on the scene. Experts sat with Andrew to comment on the exercise. Delegates were able to assess plans, policies and procedures and determine the types of systems and processes to guide the prevention of, response to and recovery from, a CBRNe emergency.
After the interactive table-top session ended, delegates were taken to the DDPM training facility in Bangkok where the Royal Thai Government ran a live CBRNe demonstration using state-of-the-art equipment provided by Bruker, Airboss and Pursuit Dynamics.
The event was seen as a total success and received fantastic feedback from sponsors, delegates and speakers alike.
“I was more than happy with NCT: CBRNe Asia 2012. The event took place in an ideal setting and we had our portable decontamination equipment used by the Royal Thai Government during the CBRN demonstration. The Royal Thai Government was very professional and demonstrated our equipment very well. Since the demonstration took place we have received numerous enquiries on our technology.” David Crouch, Product Manager, Pursuit Dynamics
