Petition on Change.org calls for the nation’s 48 fallen peacekeepers to be given proper recognition on the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial
Perth mum Avril Clark will deliver a 14,000 strong Change.org petition, calling for the proper recognition of fallen peacekeepers, to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on Thursday (8 November).
Avril’s son, Private Jamie Clark, 21, died in 2005 while on duty in the Solomon Islands. But because he was there as a peacekeeper – and didn’t die “at war” – he is not recognised on the honour roll at the Australian War Memorial.
Avril’s petition on Change.org calls for Jamie and the 47 other Australians who have died on peacekeeping and humanitarian duty to get equal status on the Roll of Honour.
The AWM has said they will accept the petition and the issue will be discussed at their meeting on Monday, 12 November.
