Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has opened Naval Group Australia’s new Future Submarine Program Office in Adelaide.

Minister Pyne said the establishment of Naval Group’s Adelaide headquarters demonstrates the group’s commitment to maximising Australian industry involvement in this historic program.

“The opening of Naval Group Australia’s new Adelaide office supports the realisation of the Government’s commitment to establishing a sovereign Future Submarine capability in Australia,” Minister Pyne said.

“It will enable the continuation of key activities, including the transfer of technology from France to Australia, the development of the Australian supply chain and the design of the submarine construction yard to be established in Adelaide.”

Minister Pyne also has announced Australian industry had again proven its world-class credentials with three Australia companies being engaged to support Naval Group with master planning studies and survey work to design and develop the Future submarine construction yard.

“The selection of Coffey Services Australia, Andrew Symonds and Precision Hydrographic Services demonstrates the Government’s commitment to maximising Australian industry involvement in this historic program,” Minister Pyne said.

“The three companies will provide geographical, topographical and hydrographic survey services to inform the design and build of the submarine yard.”

“This announcement today is worth approximately $1 million for these three businesses and will support 26 jobs here in Adelaide,” he said.

“”These three businesses will be the first of many across Australia who will be signed up to take part in the $50 billion Future Submarine Program.”

The Future Submarine Program is expected to be of more than $50 billion in value, representing investments in submarine design and construction, science and technology, logistic support and supporting infrastructure.

Australian industry involvement in the Program is expected to generate an average of around 2,800 jobs annually over the life of the Program, 1,100 of those will be directly employed by the program and 1,700 to be employed in the supply chain.
